Everyone in the pool!

Its here, Honey's life jacket has arrived!  I think it is an inch too long for her body.  I followed the sizing chart on the website, size Large was recommended for bulldogs.  Maybe Honey's body is shorter than the average bullie?  Anyway, she lets me put it on her without any struggle.  I'm not sure it will help her float though.  I still think she will sink like a brick.

We will have to wait and see.  It is still too cold for me to go in!

Bathing Beauty

We opened the pool last week and Honey has taken a real interest in the water.  It all started last Thursday. Here she is on the pool cover.  Yes, the pool cover! Thankfully, it is one of those covers that can supposedly hold an elephant.  Well, now we know that it can at least hold the Ham.

Now, a few days later, the pool is looking good.  Honey has been watching Sophia go in and out as she pleases.  This makes Honey angry.  Honey waits for Sophia to get out of the pool and immediately attacks her.  Unfortunately, there are no pictures of this.

Honey has been staring at the pool and you can just tell that she is thinking.  Her little wheels are turning and she wants to be a swimmer like Sophia.  The problem is, she does not have a swimmers body.  I think she knows that there is a high probability given her mass (64 lbs.), stubby legs and massive bowling ball of a head, that she will sink like a rock.

That will not stop Honey Ham though.  Baby steps.

That is as far as we got today. Once she gets herself on that first step she doesn't know what to do.
Her puppy life jacket should be delivered this week. Once we get that, she will be swimming laps in no time!

Honey's Office

Looking at her here, you would think we never let her outside.  She looks so depressed!

This bay window is Honey's office.  When she isn't outside, this is where you can find her.  She has her puppy steps set right in front of the window so she can climb up and down as she pleases.  She likes to watch us come and go, nap and watch the kid who skateboards on our street.

Poor Sophia

Honey does what she wants.  That is a fact.  She sleeps where she wants, when she wants. Tonight she decided that Sophia should be her own personal pillow.   So poor Sophia, who was sleeping on the couch, half under her blanket, minding her own business, had Honey Ham climb right on top of her and fall asleep.   That is 60-something pounds of bulldog.  Snoring, drooling bulldog.  Poor, poor Sophia.

Table Manners

Honey has none.  I walked by the back door and saw this.

I guess she was bored with her lounge chair.

Honey Is A Pig

She ate dirt today.  3 different times.  Once in the morning, and twice in the afternoon, we had to deal with this face.

Happy Birthday Ham!

Almost a year ago, July 13th to be exact, we brought Honey Ham home with us.  We rescued her from a pet store on a total whim.   We had stopped into the store just to torture ourselves and "take a look."  We had no intentions of leaving with anything other than some fish food for the gold fish that my sister abandoned on my doorstep 2 years before.

The moment we saw Honey we just knew that she was ours.  We had NEVER planned on a Bulldog.  We are "big dog" people.  We wanted a Lab.  We are against pet stores!  What about puppy mills?!  So we left...in tears.  There was lots of debate.  We decided it was only fair to first go to North Shore Animal League and see if there was any dog there that we could adopt. How could we buy a dog when so many out there were orphans?  Long story short, there was nothing at the shelter that we could have provided a suitable home for.  We didn't have the room in our miniscule apartment.

So it was back to the pet store we drove.  We said if she was still there,  then it was clearly meant to be.  We took Honey to the little pen area to get to know her.  She was biting Mr. T's goatee.  She followed me when I walked.   Her face was the cutest thing we had ever seen.  That was it.  I of course bargained them down on the price and we left, as a family,  to get back to our non-puppy proofed apartment.

That is the story how we were blessed with our first "child."

Her actual birthday is today.  She is 1 year old! Time flies when you have a bulldog.

Another Puppy Tantrum

This latest tantrum happened for no reason at all.  Everyone was minding their own business, watching TV, when Honey had one of her "fits."  She is OK now.  Notice how Sophia the Golden Retriever pays her no attention.
