We have to send a very, very special thank you to whomever sent Honey Ham the most awesome box full of bulldog treats and toys! If there is one thing that brings Ham joy it is opening presents!

We aren't sure who sent it, but we are sure that we LOVED receiving it! It was a nice bright spot to our otherwise dreary week.

While Honey Ham was checking up on all her news this morning she stumbled upon this article.

It is a list of foods that are toxic to pets. Did you know guacamole is not good for dogs?! Shocking because Ham is always trying to get a taste when we make it here, which is often.

Its not all bad news though. Luckily, watermelon did not make the list.

Dirt wasn't on there either.

Nor was memory foam. (BAD HAM!!!)

Or seashells.

But you probably should not eat these things either. Better to be safe than sorry.

The holidays are exhausting for Honey Ham.

First, she has to open all the presents. Even the ones that are not hers.

Then she has to play with her new toys.

After all that, she has to steal Sophia's toys (which she will deny doing).

If something is missing, it is generally a good idea to check under the bulldog of the house first.

Yes, that is Sophia's bone.

After the unwrapping, playing, stealing and denying comes the napping.

Adventure - Gardiner Park

Honey Ham went to Gardiner Park today. Since we closed the pool not too long ago Honey has been moping. This bulldog needs to swim! Luckily, Gardiner is on the Great South Bay and allows swimming. And it was HOT today. What happened to our perfect fall temperatures. We are done with 80 degrees!

Honey Ham got a serious bath when we got home. She is now snoring in the air conditioned bed room.

We love art. We LOVE bulldog art. So naturally we love Susan Tantlinger and her creations.

Fun fact - a million years ago I took just about ever art class that my colleges (yeah, that's right, colleges, I went to a few schools) offered. You name it, I took it. Except drawing, I don't really like to draw. The art classes were the only ones I liked and worth every penny of student loan debt today. I used to be artistic! Now I am out of practice (and supplies).

That is part of the reason I like Susan's blog. It is so cool to see the creation of one of her works. The different stages the painting goes through to get to that gorgeous end result...so fun to see in pictures. Go look at this post or this post to see what I mean. Makes me want to paint again! I mean, really...

And if this doesn't get you into the holiday spirit, I don't know what will! What? You aren't ready for Christmas yet? But Target has their Christmas lights out next to the Halloween costumes. So let us just embrace it.

Its almost back to school and back to work for us.

Lazy pool days are almost over. We are not emotionally ready to close the pool, pack up the floats or loose our golden tans! Pale is not a good color on us.

But back to school brings glorious autumn weather and after school walks. So we are thankful for that. Now if we could have nothing but sunshine and minimal humidity for these next three weeks we would be VERY happy!

Vermont Adventures: Burlington

I think Burlington might be our favorite city.

We love the Church Street Marketplace. There are tons of fantastic shops and restaurants.

That's Ham on Church Street. She was pretty popular there. Thankfully with Ham in tow, shopping has to be fast and furious as Honey doesn't like to wait too long while we browse.

Its a short walk to Lake Champlain and the awesome waterfront.

She is probably thinking that those ducks look like they would be fun to swim with!

So that was Burlington. We are really itching to get back up there since fall is around the corner. And really, what is better than Vermont in the fall?

Vermont Adventures: The River

At the Phineas Swann, towards the back of the property is the Trout River.

Its a nice, shallow little river. And since Honey Ham is to water as peanut butter is to jelly, we could NOT keep her out of it!

She had no problem navigating the rocks to get down into the river.

She thought about bringing the canoe with her.

Once she hit that cool river water she was in bulldog heaven!

But when it was time to get out and dry off, she had one of her tantrums.

Someone doesn't like the word 'NO'!

To review, Honey Ham has swam in rivers, oceans and pools. She would probably like to try a lake at some point, but we are not fans of lakes. Guess Honey Ham will have to use her puppy imagination when it comes to swimming in a lake. Poor, deprived Ham!

Vermont Adventures: Dog Mountain

If there is a heaven on earth for dogs (and the people who love them), it is Dog Mountain.

From their website:

Dog Mountain is set on 150 acres on a private mountain top spot in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The unspoiled haven is covered with hiking trails and dog ponds. Wildflowers abound in the summer and snow shoeing is a favorite activity in the winter. Dogs are not just welcome here, they are cherished!

And that is the truth! Honey Ham could sense something great as we pulled onto the long drive up to the property. She just new that she was about to have some serious dog fun.

To say it was amazing is an understatement. First of all, we are not used to such a dog friendly environment! This place is all about the dogs. We cannot say enough good things about the staff there. Everyone was smiling at Ham and didn't even get mad at her when she went behind the register and started rummaging for tennis balls!

They didn't care that she was sniffing around the food tables!

They were fine with her drinking from their water bowls and leaving jowl puddles on their floor!

They let her play with their toys!

And run where ever she wanted!

And run she did! We have never seen little Ham run so fast before!

She ran over the hills and through the wild flowers.

She ran right up to the Dog Chapel.

And through the chapel doggie door.

She paid her respects at the alter.

We looked around and tried not to cry.

The walls are packed floor to ceiling with notes and pictures from humans whose best friends (dogs) have passed.

It is very emotional.

And very beautiful.

All the gorgeous artwork, wood carvings, etc. is the work of Stephen Huneck.

We had seen a few of his pieces through the years and liked them, but we never knew about the artist, his story or the extent of his work. To learn more about Stephen Huneck check out this link. It makes us sad that he is no longer here to continue to create. We are so thankful that he left all of us Dog Mountain and that his wife continues to keep it going in his memory.

Vermont Adventures: Road Trip!

Better late then never...

The next few posts will be about our trip to Vermont that we took at the end of June. We have about 7,000 pictures but we will try and narrow it down a bit! Enjoy!

We love that drive up to Vermont. For us its about 6 and a half hours to the Northern Kingdom and the oasis that is the Phineas Swann. Its so north that its practically Canada! But with views like these, who cares?

Honey Ham is excellent in the car and just lays in the back seat in the little nest we make her out of pillows and blankets.

Occasionally she tries to surf the center console.

We take lots of stops and walk breaks. Even though Honey NEVER goes to the bathroom and rarely drinks when we are on road trips. Hopefully if we were on a trip longer than 6 hours she would go.

Love that Vermont rush hour traffic!

We stopped at the nicest rest stop EVER in Shannon, VT. It was gorgeous with picnic areas and a scenic overlook and an impressive Vietnam Veterans Memorial. While looking for a good picture of the rest stop I actually found an NY Times article about it and their use of "Green Flush" toilets. Uhm, interesting? Here is a link to that article anyway. The only thing I could find a picture of was the green water in their green flush toilets and this isn't that kind of blog so...just take our word for it and if you ever find yourself in that part of VT, stop at the Shannon rest stop to stretch your legs.

See, we told you it was nice!

There may have also been a stop at a McDonald's for some breakfast but we will not admit to that nor show photo proof of it. Even if Honey does love McGriddles.

Bulldogs Can't Swim!!

I love when people tell us that. People looked at us today with Honey Ham at the beach and thought we must be nuts! Then they saw Honey Ham in the water and laughed. Maybe bulldogs can't swim...but Honey Ham can.

(Always supervised of course!!! We take Honey's safety and comfort VERY seriously. Bulldogs are a special breed and we don't mess around when it comes to her safety. We went to the beach prepared and were ready to leave at a moments notice if we had to. And don't forget, it has taken three years for Honey to become this comfortable in the water and if she didn't trust us I doubt she would swim the way she does.)

Happy 4th of July everyone! Honey Ham will be relaxing by the pool and eating grilled sausage and hopefully some lobster later.

Everyone needs to check out Phineas Swann Bed and Breakfast Inn. The Phineas is a dog friendly B&B in Montgomery Center, Vermont and it is run by the awesome Jay and John. They even have their own little rescue bully named Phinny! She is too cute.

We truly cannot say enough nice things about the Phineas Swann. We were married there in October and everything was so beautiful. We loved it so much there that we just had to go back. So we did! It was just as perfect as we remembered. We have several hundred pictures from our recent trip up to Vermont. I think I will break it up into a few different posts so its not picture overload.

I know he is watching us because how else would he know how to sit on top of a table? That is Honey Ham's signature move!!!

This is an older picture of Ham from a year ago maybe? She still likes to sit on the table though. Side note - she has horrible tear stains in this picture! I don't know where they went but she doesn't have them anymore. We didn't do anything special, they just disappeared. Weird.

While Honey Ham was at home, I was here:

My other home of Siesta Beach, visiting Honey's Great Grandparents and Great Aunt in sunny (and too hot for bulldogs) Florida! Sadly, Ham could not come with and stayed home for some quality time with Mr. T. While my trip was lovely as always, I missed my Ham (and Mr. T)! Its nice to be back with my little family.

After the excitement of my homecoming Honey Ham was able to rest easy knowing that her mommy was back home.

Honey Ham was thinking of doing a give away in honor of her 100th post. We decided it would be a Ham's Favorite Things giveaway - a la Oprah. Just a little something special for all of Honey's tens of blog readers out there!

Sorry there will be no Ipads or sparkly Uggs (though Ham thinks Uggs are delicious!) or vacations!

Only the giveaway will have to wait. As Honey Ham tends to be a bit selfish and impulsive she STOLE AND ATE one of the toys we were planning on giving away while no one was looking. Bad Ham!

Let's talk about St. Patrick's Day instead.

Honey Ham marched again in the St. James parade here on Long Island. She wore a tutu and was quite popular with all the men in uniform.

Honey got a new friend this week. A bulldog friend!

Granted, its an inanimate, cement figurine of a bulldog - but its a start! One day we will have a house full of happy bulldogs.

Honey is checking his license plate, I guess she doesn't get that he isn't real.

Mrs. F who is one of the nice ladies that works with Honey's mom thought this bulldog would be a nice addition to our family. Thank you Mrs. F, you are so thoughtful. Honey's new brother (we decided its a boy since there are too many girls in the house) is perfect!

Honey wants to know...do you need signage?

Yeah, Honey didn't think she did either. But when the good people from BuildASign.com contacted us and offered Honey Ham just about any product she wanted from BuildASign.com in exchange for an honest review, we reconsidered and suddenly decided that some sort of signage was necessary in our lives!

There were a ton of different options on the BuildASign.com site, but we settled on some 3"X10" bumper stickers. Who doesn't love a bumper sticker?

The fun part (for Honey Ham's mom) was designing and creating the bumper sticker. The possibilities were endless! It was easy to create different designs. They had lots of font, color and clip art choices. Here is was we made...drumroll please.....

Awesome, right?!

They came in the mail today. There was a little shipping mix up though. Last week (when our stickers were supposed to arrive) we actually received someone else's order. We had to call the company and thankfully we received pretty good customer service over the phone. We were assured that our order would be reshipped...this time to us! I should also mention that our email communications with the company were great too. Customer service is a HUGE deal to us.

The bumper stickers are a thin vinyl which were a little tough to get off the paper backing, but we had no problem getting it on the back of our car!

The colors are nice and vivid. The lettering is crisp. Looking good!

Our favorite four letter word this winter - SNOW!

We got tons of it over here!

We also had a visitor.

Do you see that hawk? He has been here before. A couple of weeks ago he dive bombed our front window. I think he has a thing for Honey. How many pounds can a hawk lift (and fly away with)? Honey should be safe, right?

We finished all our medicine. Honey Ham somehow picked up whipworms! Doctor says she will be fine. I guess if you have to get worms, whipworms are the ones you want. We are trying to look on the bright side here. It only cost a small fortune to treat.

And, since its good to stick with a routine...we napped.

A nice way to end the week and we are all ready for the weekend! Hope everyone is warm and well rested too, don't forget to watch out for hawks!

All this snow is really effecting her toy situation. She doesn't understand why the mean snow would try and hide her toys.

Thank you everyone for your concern! Honey Ham greatly appreciates it.

Honey is maintaining her girlish figure and is still 65 pounds of bulldog beauty. I love when the vet warns that she cannot get any bigger! She got a refill on the eye drops that she had (and I lost). They treat the bacterial thing she has going on which results in some lovely LIME GREEN tear stains! The vet also recommended that she stay on Benadryl for the time being since she may have had an allergic reaction to something which is why her eye swelled.

Aren't bulldogs always allergic to something?

We hope everyone has a great holiday. Honey Ham and the mommy will be spending lots of time cuddling, reading, organizing and cooking over our break!

Going to the vet later!

I noticed Honey's eyelid was swollen last night. Nothing too terrible looking but we still want to have it checked. This morning it wasn't any worse which I think is a good thing.

Besides, I think the vet was starting to wonder where we've been (and by we, I mean our $$$). Its only been about 2 months since our last visit. Knock on wood, Honey is a healthy girl!

Honey will wear her Christmas collar. She likes to look cute when she goes to the vet since she never knows who she will run into. We will keep everyone posted.

I love this dog so much! Honey goes everywhere with me and never complains. She is up for whatever I want to do and wherever I want to go. She loves to go exploring with me and you can just tell she is happy when we are somewhere she has never been before.

I'm not kidding when I say she is the best dog ever.

So our plans took a bit of a detour today. We were supposed to help out with a garage sale that got shut down by the police. Long, ridiculous story. So I took Ham for a little drive. Here are some pictures from our trip.

Maybe its the upcoming wedding, perhaps Honey wants to drop a few lbs. for the big day. Maybe she will just eat anything we give her. But Honey is eating more vegetables (and watermelon!). She likes eating healthy.

I think what Honey really likes is pushing the broccoli off the edge of her chair just so I would pick it up again!

And for the record, broccoli is a MESSY snack. Little green broccoli bits were everywhere!
